Please review the following list of HS Building Management policies. Occupants and users of the building are expected to adhere to these policies at all times. If you have any questions or concerns about these policies or their content, contact HS Building Management.
We are currently updating our written policies. Please check back later for updates. Contact HS Building Management if you don’t see what you are looking for here.
HS Building Management is responsible for the management of all corridors, stairwells, and other common areas in Health Sciences facilities. We coordinate with service partners to ensure that occupant needs are met in these parts of the building. We also manage the use of common spaces throughout the building.
Any changes, temporary or permanent, to a common area in the building must be approved by HS Building Management. For information about corridor safety on campus, review the EH&S Corridor Safety Focus Sheet.
Common Area Guidelines
Policies for Common Areas
Bicycles, scooters, and other wheeled conveyances are strictly prohibited in all campus buildings. Review WAC 478-118-290 for more information.
If you are seen bringing a bike or scooter into the building, you will be asked to leave and secure it in a proper location. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in disciplinary action or impoundment of the bike/scooter.
There are several bike lockers and houses around the Health Sciences facilities. Review Transportation Services page for more information.
Posters, flyers, and announcements cannot be taped or tacked to the walls. Please review the Posting Policy page for more information on where posting is allowed.
HS Building Management is responsible for approving and updating directional signage in Health Sciences buildings. If you have a question or a concern, please contact HS Building Management.
If you have an event and would like to post temporary directional signage, please contact Classroom Services. They have sign stands available for rental. Departments may not place their own sign stands around the building.
Storing research freezers or fridges in corridors is only permitted if no other storage locations are available. Please contact HS Building Management for approval.
Freezers and fridges stored in the corridor must be seismically secured to the wall. They must have up-to-date contact information posted on the outside. They must have a locking mechanism and remain locked when not in use.
All corridor, hallway, and common area furniture must be approved by HS Building Management prior to installation. Do not move common area furniture from its assigned location.
Furniture is never permitted along egress routes or in stairwells.
In general, corridors and hallways should not be used to store items. Loose items are a hazard in the event of a building emergency, and corridors are not secure storage locations. Item storage is never permitted along egress routes or in stairwells.
If you would like to place storage in the hallway, please contact HS Building Management for permission. Items that are being surplused should not be placed in the hallway while waiting for pickup.
HS Building Management will contact department admin about improperly stored items. Departments are responsible for responding to storage issues when notified. If departments do not follow storage guidelines, HS Building Management reserves the right to relocate items or halt services until the issue is resolved.
Posting and Digital Signage Approval
HS Building Management has posting locations and digital signage displays throughout the Health Sciences facilities. To advertise at these locations, you must have your announcement approved by HS Building Management. Events or announcements must be UW affiliated. The name of the sponsoring department, group, RSO, or course must be clearly displayed on the announcement.
Posting Approval
Approval for posting at physical locations can be obtained by filling out the Health Sciences Posting Approval request form. Please review the requirements for approval on the form.
HS Building Management does not have physical stamps for poster approval; you must provide us a digital copy. HS Building Management approval is valid for an academic quarter (or when a scheduled event is over).
Individuals must post their own notices at the following locations. Any announcements without approval stamps will be removed. Do not post flyers or signs directly on the walls of the building. Tape, pins, screws, and nails can damage paint.

Vehicle use
University and delivery vehicles may park while unloading only. No general parking is allowed. Use is on a first-come, first-served basis. Docks are busier in the mornings and traffic usually turns over quickly. Parking longer than 30 minutes is prohibited and may result in a ticket.
Deliveries
Loading docks are not staffed and HS Building Management does not receive deliveries. Contact your delivery service or vendor if you are looking for a delivery. Departments should arrange to meet high-value deliveries at the dock.
Special Deliveries
In order to protect the building and elevators, delivery of very large or heavy equipment should be communicated to HS Building Management and UW Facilities.
Recycling
There are a variety of recycling stations on the loading docks, but not all docks have the same recycling centers. For information on how to dispose of specific items, please review UW Recycling’s Disposal Guide. Please contact UW Recycle if you have any questions.
All docks have compost, flattened cardboard, mixed paper, pallet/unfinished wood, mixed container recycling, bagged Styrofoam, and garbage disposal bins.
Printer toner cartridges can be disposed of at AA and J/K docks.
Sharps can be disposed of at the J/K loading dock, but access to the sharps dumpster is restricted.
Surplus items, hardbound books, fluorescent bulbs, eMedia, and confidential materials all have special disposal procedures, based on UW Recycling’s Disposal Guide.
Freezer Alley
Freezer Alley is a storage location for research freezers in MHSC corridor T102J. It was established for Health Sciences departments with limited equipment space. HS Building Management controls the assignment of space for storage of freezer units in Freezer Alley.
Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Departments must have approval from HS Building Management before moving their freezer. There is a small monthly charge for storage in Freezer Alley.
Please contact HS Building Management if you are interested in storing a freezer in Freezer Alley. We will let you know if there is space available. To view the Freezer Alley Storage Policy, please visit the Building Management Policies page.
Lactation and Wellness Rooms
Lactation Rooms
There are four lactation rooms in Magnuson T-wing and one room in South Campus Center. Lactation rooms are for UW-affiliated individuals to express milk. Each single-occupancy room is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Below is a list of lactation rooms throughout the Health Sciences.

UW Community members may request a lactation room code by completing a lactation room agreement form. HS Building Management will provide an access code once we receive the submitted form. Codes may be updated on a quarterly basis, or more frequently if needed. Please do not share your issued code with anyone else. A link to the agreement form is available below.
Two wellness rooms are located on the fourth floor of the Health Sciences Education Building (room numbers HSEB 415A & 415B). These are available to all UW community members for lactation, personal health, and spiritual practice. Use your Husky Card to enter. Please limit your use of wellness rooms to one hour at a time to allow others the opportunity to use the rooms.
MHSC room number T443C is also available to UW students for meditation or prayer.
